Jewelery - African style

Jewelery is very important to some tribes in Africa and it can symbolize a lot of different things - wealth, family, marriage. One of our projects last week was to design and then create our own necklaces. We had 4 different shapes and sizes of noodles as well as 4 different colors. The students had to design first:

Then they had to go and "shop" for their beads.

The next step was to follow their design and string the necklace. This took longer than they expected it too especially when you drop your string and have to start all over. (This happened to more than one student!)

They all turned out very nice and the students were very excited about them. You would have thought we were having fun or something!
