We have started to focus heavily on borrowing and we have used our base 10 blocks to help us as well as the ActivExpressions that we are borrowing from the ESD. I give the students a problem to solve on the Promethean Board:

They use their base-10 blocks to solve the problem:

And then they send in the answer using their ActivExpressions! It is a lot of fun and the students are loving every minute of it!

If your student's aren't wanting to practice math at home try to set up a game similar to this one and play together as a family. I bet your student would sit right up and love to play and it would be a great family time activity. You never know - they could even teach you a thing or two!

Hi Pen Pals,
I haven't been to your blog in a while and had so much fun catching up with all that you have been doing. I love your American Art work and your math looks like such a fun way to learn. I LOVE math!
We have a new website for you to look at. It is a new blog that just students post to. You can see it at: www.schimelkids.blogspot.com
